    Week Ending on September 2nd

    Reading, Listening, Viewing

This week, I spent approximately 2.5 hours exploring the course website and Blackboard, as well as completing the three assigned readings. The first reading, “Understanding Rhetoric: A Graphic Guide to Writing”, was quite interesting and entertaining. I think the graphic novel aspects as well as the occasional comedy created a fun twist to what could otherwise be a rather dry topic. The second reading, “Understanding Visual Rhetoric in Digital Writing Environments”, was quite long and required a great amount of attention to detail. I think this reading was beneficial to my knowledge as a marketing student, and I plan to read it over again to make sure that I fully understand it’s points. The third reading, “When Your Grades Are Based on Labor”, presented a very clear and concise grading method. I think that being graded based upon labor rather than a set of rigid rules is a great change and lets students work with confidence rather than fear.

    Writing

This week, the writing consisted of journaling our first labor log. I am excited to continue this process, as I believe it will help me keep a very close track of what I am learning and achieving. It will also keep me motivated if I run into a rut while working since I can look back and see how much I have achieved.

    Providing & Responding to Feedback

As this is our first assignment, I have yet to receive feedback. However, I am looking forward to our next class.

    Reflecting

I learned what will be required of me on a weekly basis for this class, as well as how I will be keeping track of my efforts.

    Collaborating

Since we have been off for Labor Day, I have not participated in much collaboration as of yet aside from being assigned a writing group and exchanging contacts.
