This week the assignment was to read “When the First Voice You Hear is Not Your Own” by Jacqueline Jones Royster and “How Twitter Became Home to the Teen Status Update: ‘Local Twitter’ is a booming network of basic, young suburbanites across the country.” by Taylor Lorenz. We were then asked to make connections between/among the texts. “How Twitter Became Home to the Teen Status Update: ‘Local Twitter’ is a booming network of basic, young suburbanites across the country.” by Taylor Lorenz describes the value of twitter in the lives of the younger generation who use it as somewhat of a medium to express their beliefs and values while also connecting with others simultaneously. On the other hand, “When the First Voice You Hear is Not Your Own” by Jacqueline Jones Royster describes the inability for Twitter to properly communicate the actual experience and mindset from every opinion that is published on the social media site. Therefore, we’ll never have a true understanding of one’s point of view because we haven’t fully experienced their lives the way they have.
